Evie Ladin with Keith Terry & Erik Pearson
Dance B – South Gym / 4:00 - 5:00

Square Dance/Clogging with Evie Ladin. Music from Keith Terry & Erik Pearson.

Jump into a rowdy old time square dance with calling from Evie Ladin. In workshop format, we will explore partnering, swinging, and square dance figures, as well as simple clogging steps you can use to keep time while you’re dancing. Techniques you learn can be applied to most partner dance styles. The Evie Ladin Band with Keith Terry & Erik Pearson is also performing on the Faith Petric Stage.

Evie Ladin BandEvie Ladin is a banjo player, step-dancer, singer, songwriter and square-dance caller with a lifetime of experience in traditional American cultural arts. The polyrhythmic funk of her clawhammer banjo, resonant voice, real stories and rhythmic dance – have been heard from A Prairie Home Companion to Celtic Connections, Lincoln Center to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. Evie started playing banjo at the age of eight, clogging since five, and has a fluid expressiveness in these traditional Appalachian arts, even as she brings an urban edge and contemporary vision. Based in Oakland, CA, Evie tours solo, duo with Keith Terry, with her expansive stringband Evie Ladin Band, and with Keith Terry’s Body Music projects – she is the Executive Director of the International Body Music Festival since 2008. Evie has three solo CDs, three CDs with the Stairwell Sisters, two with Crosspulse, plus two instructional DVDs: Buckdancing for Beginners and Part Two: Freestyle. An experienced and patient teacher, Evie teaches banjo, harmony singing and percussive dance, and calls rowdy square dances in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her live performance is a demonstrative, delightfully gorgeous storm.
