James and Cathleen Myers of PEERS
Transit of Earth

Saturday, June 9, 2012, 8:15pm to 10:30pm
Dance 2 -- The North Gym

Join the wonderful musicians of Transit of Earth and callers James and Cathleen Myers of PEERS, Alex Lerman, and Bob Carragher of Stanford Irish Ceili for an informal but elegant evening of vintage ballroom dancing. Dance beautiful rotary waltzes, Viennese Waltzes, polkas, mazurkas (or hambos), schottisches, vintage tangos and foxtrots, English country dances, reels, mixers, and other popular couple and set dances of the 19th and 20th centuries. Dance everything from the beautiful Congress of Vienna Waltz to Sir Roger de Coverley! All set and pattern dances will be briefly taught or called. Neither partners nor experience required.

The gifted and accomplished musicians of Transit of Earth include William Allen, keyboard, Stanley Kramer, violin (and his wife Susan Kramer when she's in town); Craig Martin, accordion; Robert Shultheis, string bass; Nancy Solomon, violin; and Mary Tabor, violin and mandolin. They are veterans of both the Bay Area Country Dance Society and the San Francisco Free Folk Festival and can play everything from Classical to English Regency to folk music and beyond. As their name suggests, Transit of Earth is also known for playing for dances at science fiction conventions, including the annual BayCon. Best of all, they know how to play beautifully and effectively for both ballroom dancers and country dancers.
