A delightful evening of vintage ballroom and couples dances

No partner required! Anyone may dance with anyone else! (For ages 12 and up. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.)

Join Cassiane Vlahos, Christopher Mobley, and Cathleen & James Myers for an evening of the favorite social dances of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The program will feature plenty of waltzes and polkas for all, along with other favorites such as the schottische, the hambo, zwiefacher, and mazourka waltz.

Live music by Transit of Earth, a SF Free Folk Festival favorite dance band! They are James Langdell, clarinet and recorders, William Allen, piano, Mary Tabor, violin (and possibly mandolin), and Robin Lockner, flute and piccolo.

Cassiane Vlahos has been dancing English country dance for over a decade. She regularly teaches for the Period events-2018 and Entertainments Re-Creation Society (PEERS), the Bay Area Country Dance Society (BACDS), The Bay Area English Regency Society (BAERS), and the Fezziwig stage at Dickens Fair. In addition, she has  done workshops specifically on Jane Austen for conventions and private events-2018. She is also a co-instructor for PEERS weekly vintage ballroom dance classes, and participates in many kinds of folk dancing.

 

 

 

Christopher Mobley is the Vorplattler for the Golden Gate Bavarian club. He began dancing when he moved to the Bay Area in 2002. In recent years, he has practiced and taught vintage ballroom and various forms of folk dances, including Bavarian, Morris, and English country Dancing.  When he’s not dancing himself, he can also be found photographing dances. He joined the Golden Gate Bavarian Club in 2009, and has been slapping his Lederhosen-clad thighs with them ever since.

 

 

 

 

Cathleen Myers is the dance mistress of the San Francisco Dickens Fair and the artistic director of PEERS (the Period events-2018 & Entertainment Re-Creation Society), which produces full-scale historical costume balls almost every first Saturday. A dancer since childhood, Cathleen has researched and taught historical dance in the Bay Area since 1987. With her husband James Eric Myers, she has dance-mastered at a wide variety of Bay Area period balls, charity balls, and science fiction/fantasy conventions and teaches a weekly vintage ballroom dance class on Sunday afternoons at the Alameda Elks Lodge. An experienced historical dance choreographer, she also performs occasionally with the Alameda Vintage Dancers and with her own group, the PEERS Flying Circus, a historical music, dance and theater performing ensemble, most notorious for their recurring Peerless Music Hall and Theater of the Vampires.
