The English Music Hall was the workingman’s entertainment in Victorian and Edwardian times. Songs were, by turn, raucous, bawdy, funny, sentimental, patriotic, maudlin and, above all, singable and fun. Jim Partridge and Ellen Hoffman have been presenting these songs for the past several years at the Great Dickens Christmas Fair, and will be giving an overview in this workshop. Come and sing along.
Jim Partridge has been singing with the acapella men’s group Brass Farthing for the past 10 years, and with other folk groups before that.
Ellen Hoffman is a pianist and composer who has performed with, composed for, and arranged for folk, classical, jazz and gospel artists. She leads a open mic where all performers and music styles are welcome at The Marsh in Berkeley on the third Tuesday of each month.
