Join the Barefoot Quales Family Band in the intimate setting of the Family Area where there’s room to dance! This intergenerational, award winning, multi-instrumentalist family band plays bluegrass and old-time music, even though the youngest band member is just 9 years old. You’ll be inspired and delighted by their music and family!
The Barefoot Quales is an old-time and bluegrass family band from Alameda. The band features Niko (9) on fiddle and vocals, and multi-instrumentalist brothers Matteo (11) and Miles (14), backed up by Uncle Rory (O’Neill) and parents Mariaelena and Christopher Quale. The Barefoot Quales have performed throughout Northern California since 2012, and the boys are state champions in fiddle and mandolin, and national runners-up in fiddle. Miles and Teo also have their own band, Crying Uncle, and are also part of the band, Jubilee.
Both Miles and Teo have had the opportunity to play at venues such as the Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival, the Northern California Bluegrass Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival, and The Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley. In 2016 and 2017, both were chosen to represent the CBA Youth Program at IBMA’s World of Bluegrass Festival. Through music camps, festivals and concerts, Miles and Teo have had the privilege of playing with many talented musicians, including Chad Manning, Alasdair Fraser, Michael Cleveland, Tristan and Tashina Clarridge, Annie Staninec, Luke Price, Jordan Tice, Brittany and Natalie Haas, Sean Watkins, Special Consensus, Dominick Leslie, John Reischman, Megan Chowning Lynch, George Cole, Sideline Bluegrass Band and Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen Band.
The Barefoot Quales have played at venues such as The Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley, The Oakland Aviation Museum, and Trentadue Winery in Geyserville. The band placed 1st in the 2016 Berkeley Old-time Music Convention Stringband Contest.
