This one-hour instrumental workshop is for beginners and beyond, for anyone who wants to use old time banjo to back up their singing. Topics include:
*How to tune a banjo to match the range of your voice.
*What type of banjo to choose for singing.
*What kind of picking works best for different songs.
*How to play 4/4 and 3/4 (waltz) songs.
Possible song samples include Shenandoah, Pretty Saro, Down in the Valley, Roseville Fair, Hills of Mexico
Tom has been playing old time banjo since joining the club back in the late 80s. During this Covid down time, he has morphed from playing strictly clawhammer to two and three finger styles, all of which are great for backing folk songs.
