Women’s History Folk Songs (2023 program)

Estelle Freedman
Area 1 / 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

In this participatory workshop, historian Estelle Freedman will lead, teach, and explain what folk songs reveal about the history of women’s lives in the United States from the late eighteenth to the early twentieth centuries. Learn the meanings behind some familiar, and some not so familiar, songs sung by or about women in the past, as you sing along.

A long-time member of the SF Folk Music Club, Estelle Freedman taught women’s history and the history of sexuality at Stanford University for over four decades. She is co-directing a documentary film about SF folk musician/activist Faith Petric.
