Songs from a Hat is back! It’s a hilarious fast-paced musical game for people of all ages who have a big musical repertoire.
“Songs from a Hat” gives a mental workout to people who know a lot of songs. Multiple genres of music are encouraged, so lovers of contemporary protest songs and old-ballad mavens can have fun together. Scoring is optional, so any age or skill level can have fun playing. Everyone gets a moment in the sun when they are called upon to name a song and sing a phrase from it, but the game moves on quickly when you aren’t ready with a song and the focus is on the wide range of songs we can generate and enjoy as a group. Casey will provide pencil and paper for those who choose to keep score.
Casey is a frequent workshop leader at SFFMC and Portland Folk events. For the last year both clubs have been running Casey’s column, Trad Lore, in their newsletters. She gets excited over the folklore and history of old European and American songs, especially ballads from the oral tradition. She sings in French and Spanish as well as English. Casey loves to gather people with big singing repertoires and get them to dig deep for a surprising song.
