In this participatory singing workshop, historian Estelle Freedman will lead, teach, and explain what folk songs reveal about women’s history, primarily in the U.S. Learn the meanings behind some familiar, and some not so familiar, songs sung by or about women in the past as you sing along. All are welcome.
A long-time member of the SF Folk Music Club, Estelle Freedman taught women’s history and feminist studies at Stanford University for over four decades. She co-directed the documentary film Singing for Justice, about folk singer/activist Faith Petric.
