Prior to the annual Free Folk Festival, the SF Folk Club presented an annual Summer Song Festival at the SF Jewish Community Center on California Street from 1964 through 1975. These were typically held on several Monday evenings in the summer.

Folk Music Series At S.F. Center
The opening folk music concert in the summer song festival sponsored by the San Francisco Jewish Community Center will be held Monday, July 27 at 8 p.m. Eight well-known Bay Area artists will be featured in the event which is open to the public without charge. They are Ellen Faust. “The Fogbounders” trio, Ricardo Teja-da-Flores. Jim Hughes. Kevin Langdon and Nancy Schimmel. Master of ceremonies will be Barry Olivier, director and founder of the Berkeley Folk Music Festival. The other two concerts in the series will be held Aug. 10 and Aug. 24. Malvina Reynolds, composer of “Little Boxes,” is master of ceremonies for Aug. 10; Faith Petric, coordinator of the San Francisco Folk Music Club, will serve as M.C. Aug. 24.

2nd Folk Concert At S.F. Center
Malvina Reynolds, composer of the hit tune “The Little Boxes.” will be the master of ceremonies at the folk music concert Monday. Aug 10 at 8:15 p.m. at the San Francisco Jewish Community Center. The admission-free event is sponsored by the San Francisco JCC. in cooperation with the San Francisco Folk Music Club Featured in the concert, second in the Center’s summer folk song festival, will be well-known Bay area singers Julie Bidou. Vangie Elkins. George Fouke. Irving Fromer. Isabell and Lou Hansen, Dan Stolter. and Shirley Stadelhofer. The final concert m the series will be held Aug 24 with Faith Petric as master of ceremonies. THE FOLK Song Festival’s second session will be Monday, August 9 at 8 p.m. This annual event, which is co-sponsored by the Jewish Community Center and the San Francisco Folk Music Club, is intended to bring together outstanding folk singers and their devotees in an informal performance with admission free to the general public. The August 9 session features blues, ballads, Mexican music, country and western songs, Spanish classics. Participating artists are George Fouke, Ellen Faust, Shirley Stadelhofer, Linda Uyehara, Kevin Langdon and Valerie Langdon, Jim Carr, Dave Rynearson, and Phil Adams. Coordinator of the festival is Faith Petric. The Folk Song Festival will continue on Monday nights, August 16 and 23.

Young Adults Will Mark Brotherhood
Young adults from more than 16 local organizations will celebrate Brotherhood Week Feb. 27 at 8:30 p.m.. at the Clav Street YWCA, 965 Clay St. Speakers will be Dr. Robert Smith, professor of Education at San Francisco State College, and Joseph Kennedy, Northern California president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Featured in the entertainment will be Stan Wilson, popular folk singer. Several folk dance groups in the area will demonstrate and lead folk dances of different lands. There will be no admission charge and all young adults are invited to attend. Members from the following organizations are participating in planning for the celebration: YWCA, YMCA, Jewish Young Adult Council, NAACP Youth Council, Young Christian Workers of the Catholic Church, Young Democrats, Young Republicans, Bethel Afro-Methodist-Episcopal Church youth, Bahai Youth, Fideiians, Channing Club Unitarian Youth, San Francisco Folk Music Club, Central Californian Unitarian Youth Federation, Western States Jewish Youth Councils, Jewish Youth Congress and Emanuel Residence Club. Cooperating in the capacity of advisors are the American Jewish Committee and t he National Conference of Christians and Jews.

Residence Club In Party Plans
The Emanu-El Residence Club Chanukah Festival will be held Friday, Dec. 17 at 8:30 p.m. A holiday dinner, served to the residents and their guests at 6 p.m. will be followed by the Chanukah festival and program at 8 30 p.m. in Claire Hall. Former residents and community persons are invited to the program which will include the kindling of the festival lights by Gloria Swillinger. the Chanukah story told by Margo Block, an exhibition by the Rikudom Dancers. Faith Petric, a member of the San Francisco Folk Music Club, will be the vocal soloist. Traditional refreshments will be prepared and served by the residents. Mrs. Arthur Baum, festival board chairman and Colette Gerner, resident chairman, are planning and executing the details for the festival.
